Aneel (Agencia Nacional de Energia Eletrica) announced that on December 18 and 20, 2017, two auctions planned for bargaining of new power plants will be realized, in order to supply energy from 2021 and 2023.

The pre-registration of the projects, for analysis of the technical requirements by EPE (Empresa de Pesquisa Energetica), expired on 6 September 2017.

Auction A-4 - December 18, 2017

Companies interested in supplying electricity produced through hydro, wind, solar photovoltaic and thermoelectric plants biomass-fueled will be able to participate in the auction.

The supply of energy will start on July 1, 2021.

The auction will be made in two phases:

– in the first phase the plants will be selected according to the flow / distribution capacity through SIN (Sistema Interligado Nacional)

– in the second, projects will be selected according to energy demand.

1676 projects were enrolled for a total power of 47,996 MW.

Auction A-6 - December 20, 2017

Companies interested in supplying electricity produced through hydro, electric, biomass, coal and natural gas power plants will be able to participate in the auction.

The energy supply will start on January 1, 2023.

The auction will be made in two phases:

– in the first phase hydroelectric power plants with capacity over 50 MW will be contracted compulsorily

– in the second, projects will be selected according to energy demand

1092 projects were enrolled for a total power of 53,424 MW.

For A-6 auction, 49.9% of the expected energy comes from wind projects (953 projects for 26,651 MW); 40.4% comes from natural gas thermoelectric projects (23 projects for 21,560 MW).
