After that the STF (Supremo Tribunal Federal) approved, with 6 votes in favor and 5 against, the incarceration of offenders convicted both in first and second instance – the position of Lula, sentenced in 2nd at 12 years and 1 month of prison – the judge Sergio Moro has decreed the incarceration of the former President of the Republic.
The execution of the sentence is scheduled for today, 6 April 2018.
I remember that Luis Inacio Lula da Silva was convicted on appeal for passive corruption and laundering in the case known as “triplex of Guaruja’”.
All Brazil is following the evolution of events, with numerous demonstrations in favor and against the incarceration of the former President. It is a historic but controversial event: for some, a fundamental signal in the fight against corruption, for others an act of political persecution.
The fact remains that Lula has been convicted in a regular trial and that there are four other processes under way that see him involved and that could considerably increase the penalty.
To those wishing to deepen the knowledge of the Lava-Jato investigation, I suggest the vision of the wonderful television series “O Mecanismo”, broadcast on Netflix.
